NHC Tracking Tropical Storm Bret

The National Hurricane Center in Miami is currently tracking Bret, the second named tropical storm of the season. Unless it changes course, which is highly unlikely, Bret poses no threat to the U.S. mainland, as it is heading into the middle of the Atlantic.

The storm is currently about 90 miles northeast of Great Abaco Island, and is moving north-northeast at around 5 to 7 mph .

AXIS Puts Q2 Cat Losses at $90-$105 Million; Updates Q1 Estimates

Bermuda-based AXIS Capital Holdings Limited has estimated that the total net financial impact of the June 2011 aftershock in New Zealand and the series of severe weather events that occurred in the U.S. in April and May 2011 are expected to be $90 to $105 million – net of reinsurance coverage, tax and reinstatement premiums.

Okla. Commissioner Names Williams Insurance Professional of the Month

In a new effort to recognize members of the insurance industry for their contributions to consumers and community, Insurance Commissioner John Doak named Farmers Insurance Group District Manager Pepper Williams as the first recipient of the Oklahoma Insurance Professional of the Month Award.

Doak, who took office in January, instituted the monthly awards program through the Oklahoma Insurance Department to commend insurance agents, brokers, adjusters, executives and other industry employees for exemplary performance on behalf of the customers and communities they serve.

Williams was chosen for his nearly 40 years of service to Farmers customers, his advancement of catastrophe response techniques, his educating and mentoring of young agents in the critical field of customer service, and his community involvement through the Rotary Club, membership in Southern Hill Baptist Church and the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, plus charitable efforts such as the March of Dimes and Coats for Kids.

Nominations for the award can be submitted to the Insurance Department through its Web site at http://oid.ok.gov and recipients will be selected by a panel of their peers in the industry.

Geneva Association Appoints Inscoe to Head Institutional Relations

International insurance think tank, The Geneva Association, announced the appointment of former Secretary General of the International Association of Deposit Insurers and Deputy Director of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation , Donald Inscoe, as Head of Institutional Relations.

He began his career as a supervisory policy analyst and bank examiner at the FDIC, subsequently moving to the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council. He then moved to work for two private sector consultancies developing tools for financial institutions and investors, returning to the FDIC in 1990.
