Assumption Life is one of Canada’s leading insurance carriers for non-medical life insurance solutions.
Its basic non-medical policy is called Total Protection and is available with as few as four questions. Face amounts can range from 5,000 to 50,000 and for amounts over $30,000, additional health questions are required. The policies are available to applicants age 18 to 80 and they come with a multi-life discount.
The policies are available on a deferred basis, that is, if death occurs within the first two years, by non-accidental means, the payout is limited to a return of premium, plus interest.

Following the recent powerful winds sweeping through the country, we have had a number of enquiries from customers who are unsure as to what their home insurance for second homes does and does not cover in relation to fallen trees.
As the great storm of 1987 demonstrated, falling trees can cause widespread disruption and damage.
Fallen trees are a bit of an insurance grey area, but generally speaking insurers will deal with a claim as follows.
A tree has fallen in my garden – will my insurance pay for damage and for it to be removed? Typically, with an insurance policy, you may find that a policy covers only the damage caused by trees, and not the trees themselves. T

If you are planning to give your holiday home a major makeover in order to widen its appeal or increase its value, don’t forget to tell your second home insurance provider. Contact your insurer before work commences on any conversions, extensions or other structural work to the buildings – as this may change the conditions of the insurance.
Why improve?
Self catering holidays are popular not just because of the often lower costs compared to hotel-based holidays, but because holiday makers can also benefit from the flexibility of eating in and enjoy more freedom and space.
While the demand for self catering properties is high, which is great news for second home owners looking to let their property – the self-catering holiday market is very competitive. Gone

Park caravan insurance (sometimes known as park home insurance) is a form of insurance protection aimed at a specific type of caravan/dwelling.
The insurance industry typically recognises a number of different caravan types:
- park homes (park caravans);
- static caravans;
- touring caravans;
- trailer tents;
- motorhomes.
In the case of park homes, this category is typically defined partly by its location and partly by the way that the caravan or dwelling is used.
If you have a structure/caravan that resides on a site that has been approved by the local authorities for permanent park home occupation and you occupy your structure/ caravan as your permanent place of residence, then it will typically be defined as a park home.
As such, it will require specific park home (park caravan) insurance.
In another situation, if you have the static caravan located on a site licensed only for temporary caravan usage and you only occupy your caravan for a few weeks per year for holiday purposes, then it will typically require static caravan insurance.
The two forms of cover are not interchangeable and you cannot use static caravan insurance for a caravan/dwelling that you occupy on a permanent basis.
This is not just a discussion around the meaning of words.
Caravan insurance providers typically see the risks for a park home and a static caravan, as being significantly different.

In a new effort to recognize members of the insurance industry for their contributions to consumers and community, Insurance Commissioner John Doak named Farmers Insurance Group District Manager Pepper Williams as the first recipient of the Oklahoma Insurance Professional of the Month Award.
Doak, who took office in January, instituted the monthly awards program through the Oklahoma Insurance Department to commend insurance agents, brokers, adjusters, executives and other industry employees for exemplary performance on behalf of the customers and communities they serve.
Williams was chosen for his nearly 40 years of service to Farmers customers, his advancement of catastrophe response techniques, his educating and mentoring of young agents in the critical field of customer service, and his community involvement through the Rotary Club, membership in Southern Hill Baptist Church and the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, plus charitable efforts such as the March of Dimes and Coats for Kids.
Nominations for the award can be submitted to the Insurance Department through its Web site at http://oid.ok.gov and recipients will be selected by a panel of their peers in the industry.
